Our Story
Historical charm, modern spirit
Ethos Hotel has a sweet history — quite literally. Our main site at 59 Western Road once housed the Grandpont Bakery, a beloved fixture of Oxford’s historic district. Across the street, at 60 Western Road, stands Caffè Ethos, our fully licensed bar and restaurant. Built in 1888 as a hotel and pub on the site of Oxford’s original railway station, it once served fans of the nearby Oxford City football ground until its relocation in 1989.
Today, Ethos Hotel blends this heritage with boutique modern comfort. We’ve preserved the character of our buildings while integrating contemporary design, sustainability, and innovation. The result: an experience that’s independent, informal, and authentically Oxford.
With contactless check-in, secure external access, and a strong eco-friendly ethos, we combine the warmth of a family-run stay with the ease of modern technology — all in a place that’s historical yet forward-looking.
